Child of the Sun Jazz Festival, April 21

Child of the Sun Jazz Festival, April 21

Child of the Sun 2011 was a huge success! Hundreds of triathletes hit our lake and streets for an urban sprint course that everyone enjoyed. Then we rolled right into a spectacular array of legendary jazz musicians that treated us to smooth sounds throughout the evening.

The Lakeland Rotary Club is ready to do it again and plans are underway to bring an even better Child of the Sun event for 2012. After being granted permission from Florida Southern College, who originally founded the festival in 1988, the Lakeland Rotary Club has been hard at work planning and organizing an amazing community cultural event.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 21, 2012, and be ready to enjoy legendary jazz musicians in a beautiful outdoor setting. An array of food and beverage vendors will be on hand so you can enjoy delicious fare while grooving to the sounds of music. No coolers will be allowed. As this is a fundraising event, concession sales will benefit local charities.

If you are looking for an exclusive Jazz Festival experience with premier air-conditioned viewing of the stage, then the Backstage Pass at the Magnolia Building is for you. While here you will enjoy a wide variety of food and libations prepared especially for our Backstage Pass guests.

Tickets are required for entry for Back Stage Pass and include the following:

Free beer, wine and liquor
Free food
Exclusive viewing area from Magnolia Building balcony
Climate controlled areas
Private restroom facilities
$35/per person

Don’t forget to sign up for the Urban Triathlon and 5k. We’ve added this urban sprint triathlon to gain participation from one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. And new for 2012, we’re adding a 5k for those short distance enthusiasts.

The best part of this signature event is the fact that we’re doing all of this to support our local charitable organizations. Through proceeds generated from Child of the Sun, The Lakeland Rotary Club will continue to support its mission of providing grant funds to those groups that do so much in our community. The primary beneficiaries for 2012 will be VISTE and Parker Street Ministries.
